1/28 submarine

This week in science we made submarines that would quickly go down and come back up. It took A while for it to work but when it did it it looked really cool. I was working with Andre. We didn’t really have a plan. We just put in pennies and some water, then added alkacelzer. but it didn’t work. We had to keep adding a Pennie until it was the perfect amount.
I wish going into this we would have made more of a plan. We were not very efficient. If we had a plan we would have got more done. It was a good lesson though. I am glad we got to get it done in the end. Once we finished it was cool.
I had fun anyway!

Straw house 5/12

This week in science we are making straw houses. The has to be a sand bag on both floors. when we are done we will put them on a shake table to see if it would survive a “earthquake”. This is relevant to our class because we are learning plate tectonics. Alejandro and I are partners. We made one model but once we put the sandbag on it broke. Now we are doing a second one. It is turning out much better.
From having a mistake in the first one, I learned a lot from this. When we didn’t think it was enough support we would make t bigger on the top. It didn’t work out. We put the sand bag on but it collapsed. What we should have done is make more supports. We needed to make it stronger not bigger. That is what we are doing with the second one.

Rock columns

This week in science we made rock colunms. They were made with plaster. WE all made different colors. I had blue but the green didn’t show. The blue and red looked cool we added shells and other stuff too. we let them dry then we cracked them open.
The reason we did this was because we wanted to see what rock layers are like. We cut them down the middle so we could see the layers. We colored them for the same reason . It was cool to see the shells. I wonder what would have happened if we didn’t add potroleum jelly. I also wonder if we could see the rock layers without color.
